Synchronizing your mail file after working offline

When you finish working offline and you return to working online, you synchronize the local copy of your mail file with the copy of your mail file on the server. Each mail file then receives the latest updates and changes from the other mail file. Mail you composed and queued for sending while offline is sent. Mail you received in the server copy of your mail file is added to the local copy of your mail file.

You can synchronize manually or you can schedule synchronization to occur automatically, based on a schedule you determine.
Remember: If you schedule synchronization, the subscription management program you use must be running.

Synchronizing manually

You synchronize manually the same way for both the IBM Domino® Sync Manager and IBM iNotes Sync.

Procedure

  1. Log on to IBM iNotes while connected to the network.
  2. Click the arrow next to your name in the IBM iNotes banner, and then click Online > Start Synchronization.

Scheduling synchronization using IBM Domino Sync Manager

If you use the IBM Domino Sync Manager on Windows to work offline, use these steps to set up a schedule that automatically synchronizes your local mail file with the server copy of your mail file. For additional information, see the product help in the IBM Domino Sync Manager.

Procedure

  1. Open the IBM Domino Sync Manager and select your mail file subscription.
  2. Click Properties, and then click the Schedule tab.
  3. Specify how often to synchronize your subscription.
  4. Optional: Select Disable to delay scheduled synchronization, or to stop synchronizing using your defined scheduled.
  5. Click Apply.

Results

Scheduled synchronization occurs only when the IBM Domino Sync Manager is running. If you minimize the IBM Domino Sync Manager, it still runs in the background and scheduled synchronization occurs. But if you close it, scheduled synchronization does not occur.

Scheduling synchronization using IBM iNotes Sync

If you use IBM iNotes Sync on Linux to work offline, use these steps to set up a schedule that automatically synchronizes your local mail file with the server copy of your mail file.

  2. Click the arrow next to your name in the IBM iNotes banner, and then click Online > Schedule.
  3. Specify how often to synchronize your subscription.
  4. Optional: Select Disable to delay scheduled synchronization, or to stop synchronizing using your defined scheduled.
  5. Click OK.

Results

Scheduled synchronization occurs only when the IBM iNotes Sync is running. If you close it, scheduled synchronization does not occur.
